Medap-LIS Laboratory Information System

The Medap-LIS Laboratory Information System (LIS) is a complex software and hardware solution tailored specifically for clinical and diagnostic medical laboratories. Medap-LIS supports data collection, processing and storage, and provides automation of technological processes, management and communication.

Medap-LIS has been in production for more than fifteen years and is being used at a broad range of labs processing dozens to thousands of specimen samples per day.

The main feature of Medap-LIS is high-level automation of technological processes. Our unique systems of connecting laboratory analysers and feeding the results of manual tests via specialised terminals give Medap-LIS a considerable advantage over competing information systems. The Medap-LIS system can be easily modified to work with any European language. At present, Medap-LIS is available in English, Latvian, and Russian.

Laboratory Automation with Medap-LIS

Medap-LIS development focuses on automating the technological processes at a laboratory. In order to cut down on manual operations, increase lab work efficiency and quality, Medap-LIS provides:

• Advanced opportunities for connecting analysers.
  Medap-LIS allows both to obtain test results from and upload work lists into automated instruments. Analysers with internal quality control can transmit the results of control measurements to the LIS. The number of analyser models that can connect to Medap-LIS is unmatched among other known information systems.
• A system of micro-terminals to automate manual tests.
  Based on our blood cell counter, we have developed a universal micro-terminal that can be programmed to conveniently input results for all sorts of studies. Input results go to the LIS database.
• Automatic preliminary processing of collected results.
  Verification of results against reference intervals, allowing automatic validation of results within the control range. Each measurement may have its own reference set of population groups.
• Automatic calculation of derived results while preparing a study report.
• Automatic registration of test requests. Medap-LIS allows to:
  • Accept requests electronically, from a hospital information system (HIS) or a special Medap-LIS module installed in a doctor's office.
  • Connect optical mark readers (OMRs) produced by Axiome Alpha SA.
  • Read hand-filled request cards using ABBYY FormReader software.

Medap-LIS Extras

In addition to servicing the main production cycle – registration of materials, composition and dispatch of work lists, collection of results, compilation and validation of study reports – Medap-LIS has the following features:

• A quality control system compliant with Westgard Rules and Russian Federation Ministry of Health Industry Standard "On Performing Internal Laboratory Quality Control". In addition to running control samples through the main work cycle, Medap-LIS can collect results of internal quality control performed by certain analysers.
• A report document archive, storing data on all issued study reports.
• A statistical report compilation system that allows running customized queries to the database or the report archive.
• Inter-laboratory cooperation on a "contractor/subcontractor" basis.
• The possibility of conducting anonymous specimen tests without registering patient data.
